Welcome to the Shoreline Sister City Association

Our Mission: Promote Global Peace and Prosperity

Our mission is to promote global peace and prosperity by fostering relationships based on cultural exchange, education, and mutual respect. We believe that by connecting with communities around the world, we can contribute to a more peaceful, prosperous, and interconnected global society.

Economic Development

Our association facilitates business exchanges and economic partnerships between Shoreline and our sister cities. These collaborations help local businesses explore international markets and promote economic growth on a global scale.

Cultural Exchanges

We organize cultural exchange programs that bring people from our sister cities to Shoreline and send local participants abroad. These programs include student exchanges, art exhibitions, music and dance performances, and culinary experiences.

Educational Programs

Through partnerships with our school district and community college, we offer educational exchange opportunities that allow students and teachers to gain new perspectives by visiting and studying in our sister cities.

Akuapem, Ghana

The people of Akuapem, in Ghana's Eastern Region, are known for their deep cultural heritage, hospitality, and values that reflect unity, respect, and reverence for tradition. One of the most culturally significant aspects of Akuapem is the annual Odwira Festival, which is celebrated with great pride and involves cleansing, thanksgiving, and community renewal rituals. This festival, rooted in spiritual purification and community harmony, unites the Akuapem people as they honor their ancestors, celebrate harvests, and strengthen social bonds.

A key belief among the Akuapem is captured in the expression "Biako ye," meaning "We are one," highlighting the community’s emphasis on togetherness, cooperation, and mutual respect. Their cultural practices, oral histories, and storytelling traditions also emphasize values of unity, peaceful coexistence, and respect for hierarchy within the community.
